Nourseothricin은 Streptothricin C, D, E 및 F로 구성된 혼합물로, 다양한 원핵 및 진핵 생물에서 사용할 수 있는 broad-spectrum selection antibiotic입니다. 이는 그람양성균과 그람음성균을 포함한 세균, 효모, 사상균, 원생생물, 미세조류, 식물 등 폭넓은 생물종에 적용 가능합니다.

재조합 균주의 선별은 Nourseothricin N-acetyltransferase에 의해 매개되며, 이 효소는 sat1 또는 nat1 유전자에 의해 발현됩니다. 해당 효소는 ß-lysine 잔기의 ß-amino group을 mono-acetylation하여 Nourseothricin을 불활성화함으로써, 항생제에 대한 내성을 부여하고 선택적 생장을 가능하게 합니다.
